911
Dispatch
911
-- what is the latest ... your guess as good as mine.
Ok I have to admit they have changed this so many
times I have no clue anymore what the latest is --- if you're
reading this and you know - help me out . We used to call
911 just for emergencies. Then, they moved the
dispatch up to the county. As of late 2011, Chief Kelly announced that 911 is
the number to call whenever you need dispatch - emergency or not.
And he told people who wanted, for instance, to report a
problem or ask a question about a solicitor to call 911 .
That is certainly not what we originally thought of as what 911
is for.
I recently
had a situation where I did want an officer to show up, but
where no emergency was involved. It was difficult to push
the buttons after so many years of training not to use 911
except for dire emergencies . I apologized on the phone &
made sure it was OK and they assured me that yes, anytime you
need an officer to be sent 911 is the correct number .
That doesn't feel right .
In addition, to ask people who would like to have an officer
look into a solicitor in the neighborhood should not require
having an officer sent to your home . Some people may not
care to "entertain" a visit - and why should they have to, in
order to let the police know they would like a solicitor checked
out?
As
of this writing I have not heard otherwise - so it's 911
for a car to be dispatched anywhere - emergency or not.
Someone has also
alerted me that there may not be any permanent
record of calls made to the regular police station number. So
with 911 there will be a record of the calls made . If you
want a record otherwise of your contact with police, you might want to
follow ip your conmversation with an email or letter.

Abington Township revamped the entire Township website at the end of 2015
and broke all the links to the information. In 2017, under Richard
Manfredi,
someone inexperienced was assigned to redo the entire website again.
The public was not asked what problems they would like to see fixed. Their new plan was
not well thought out, so everything was very hard to find and there were giant
paragraphs you had to slog through in order to find the pertinent one or two
lines that you needed. Or if you were lucky enough to even find the meetings and
agenda page, there was (and still is) a whole page
of nonsense on top, so you think you're on the wrong page. Zoom limks are
burrid in a giant paragraph, so people can't find them to attend the meeting.
They know about these problems - but have just decided to ignore us....
for the whole of Richard Manfredi's time here (with Tom Hecker's consent).
Now, in 2025, we are due to get a new Manager,
and there are funds put aside to, once again, upgrade the Township website. We can only hope for a
fresh chance at fixing some of these things, as our Township website is the best tool we
have for communication and should be an easy, user friendly site for all.
We need volunteers willing to work together to help improve the Township site
that everyone has to use, to make it functional and accessible.
We will be repairing our broken links in this Abington Citizens site,
too, and fixing some of our many, many
typo's as much as is possible. (Yes, it's quite evident that, unlike the
Township, WE don't have a paid staff of 275+ or a $93 million budget).
So...please let us know if you find broken links
or typos. Send us the URL
and/or
and the name of the page it is on, so we can correct it.
Thanks for the help.
